Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, said in an interview with Al Jazeera that Iraqi Kurdistan seeks peace and is trying to maintain stability amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
According to him, the Kurdistan Regional Government in northern Iraq has consistently sought to remain on the sidelines of the conflicts that have erupted in the Middle East. Barzani said that the regional government has maintained this approach throughout the conflicts in the region.
Barzani also stated that during the U.S. war against Iran, the Kurdistan Regional Government was targeted approximately 1,000 times. He mentioned this fact while discussing the government’s desire to avoid getting drawn into regional conflicts.
Nevertheless, according to the prime minister, the regional government seeks to maintain stability through peaceful solutions. Barzani described peaceful approaches as a way to uphold stability in Iraqi Kurdistan amid regional tensions.
